About St Arnaud
St Arnaud is a town in the Wimmera region of
Victoria, Australia, 244 kilometres north west of the
capital Melbourne. It is in the Shire of Northern
Grampians local government area. At the 2011
census, St Arnaud had a population of 2,619.
St Arnaud is a former gold mining town, situated
between Avoca and Donald. St Arnaud, a rural
town, is at the west of the Victorian goldfields
region and is 95 km west of Bendigo. It is on the
Sunraysia Highway and railway line to Mildura.
The town features many well-preserved historic
buildings which line the main thoroughfare of
Napier Street, including a generous collection of
pubs.
The district around St Arnaud supports an
agricultural industry of sheep grazing, grains and
wineries, with forested areas to the south and
open Mallee plains to the north.
